Black Tahitian Pearls are found in the black lipped oyster in the islands of French Polynesia. This oyster can be as large as 12 inches wide and can weigh up to 10 pounds. The larger the oyster the result will be a much larger than normal black pearl.
Black Tahitian Pearls are not naturally black, as most people might believe. They are however, natural dark colors such as:
- Grey
- Silver
- Charcoal
- True black pearls are a very rare find
Tahiti is not the true home of even one pearl farm. The farms are located throughout French Polynesia.
